Talk Performance

My independent performance work, like my scholarship, focuses on the relationship between talk, text, and the performance event, especially as that relationship responds to different scoial, disciplinary, and media environments. Talk Performance is a critical category I use in my research to describe any performance that centralizes language generated or deployed in the performative present, and that probes the distinction between talk and text. Talk Performance is also the practical term I apply in my creative work to describe a number of different platforms I have created to materialize talk as a performance material across many different performance contexts and to use it to shape unexpected and humane encounters experienced together in real time by performers, self-identified or otherwise, and audiences.
